PEACE, JUSTICE AND STRONG INSTITUTIONS

goal16

To ensure that all other goals are achievable by constant cooperation, the foundation of peaceful and inclusive societies is a mandatory prerequisite. Making sure that there is cohesion in the movement towards the goals throughout the world, Goal 16 stands for development of accountable and inclusive institutions that recognise the need for good governance to facilitate Agenda 2030.

Fact And Figures

While several regions have enjoyed increased and sustained levels of peace and security in recent decades, many countries are soil facing continuous armed conflicts and violence. Th struggles against weak and under-functioning institutions of governance result in lack of access to justice, information and more fundamental freedoms.

Human trafficking, sexual violence, pervasive violence against children as acts of punishment and psychological aggression, detention without sentences, bribery and corruption, identity and recognition before law, effectiveness, inclusiveness and transparency are issues worth pondering over in the past few decades.

Many regions of the world continue to suffer untold horrors as a result of armed conflict or other forms of violence that occur within societies and at the domestic level. Advances in promoting the rule of law and access to justice are uneven. However, progress is being made in regulations to promote public access to information, albeit slowly, and in strengthening institutions upholding human rights at the national level.
